When the Palisades and Eaton fires devastated Los Angeles communities, artists and arts workers faced not only the loss of their homes and studios but also the potential collapse of their creative livelihoods. The Perenchio Foundation, along with fellow funders, partnered with the Center for Cultural Innovation to support the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund, which distributed $16.4 million in emergency aid to more than 1,700 artists and arts workers affected by the fires. The Fund prioritized immediate relief, ensuring that all eligible applicants received the full amount they requested, with grants of up to $10,000. Among those supported, 85% were artists and 15% were arts workers, each able to address their most urgent needs in the aftermath of this disaster.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought Los Angeles arts organizations to the brink, forcing closures and threatening the cultural ecosystem that makes the region vital and vibrant. The Perenchio Foundation joined a collaborative effort to support their post-pandemic rebuilding. From 2021 through 2025, the LA Arts Recovery Fund awarded $41.12 million to 113 nonprofit grant recipients, including 90 small to mid-sized cultural organizations spanning visual arts, theater, music, dance, literary arts, and arts education, as well as 13 arts service organizations. All grantees demonstrated exceptional regional significance to their communities. Established by the J. Paul Getty Trust and administered by the California Community Foundation, the Fund represents the largest-ever pooled private investment in the arts in Los Angeles County, ensuring that the organizations at the heart of our creative community could not only survive but thrive once more.
